The Consistent Growth of Scripps Ranch Theatre

Scripps Ranch Theatre is an organization that is based in San Diego, California and is run completely by volunteers and is non-profit. The organization is committed to creating entertaining theatre on a consistent basis and has earned a reputation as one of the best small theatres in the entire California area. This is now the 31st season that the group has been together and they are still growing strong.

In fact, SRT has actually won a number of awards and is one of the most successful theatres in San Diego. It continues to grow incredibly fast as more volunteers are getting involved and the subscription base has tripled in the last 3 years.

A Modest Start

In 2009, the Scripps Ranch Theatre in San Diego celebrated their 31st year as an organization. All the way back in 1978 the organization was put together even though there was no home for the group and despite the fact that members and volunteers had to keep props and tools in their garages or living rooms. In fact, an entire play was actually performed in the parking lot of a shopping center due to the fact that no other venue could be found.

In another memorable moment, a rabbit hopped onto stage and interrupted a performance while a performance was being put on at the Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club's basketball court. Finally, in 1992 the theater found its permanent and current home in the Legler Benbough theatre located in the Alliant International University campus.

While things started slow and in a modest manner, SRT has some very big plans for the future. The goal is to become a theatre that can cater to people of all walks of life, age groups, and cultures. Theatres are an important part of society and SRT is focused on being a theatre that provides never ending experiences for everyone.
